The Day Of 9/11 As It Happened
It was the morning of Tuesday September 11th, 2001. It was really sunny and a normal day for school. I was too tired to go to school, but I got and went to school. Bush was the president at the time.
When I got to school it was about 7:55am. I went up to my classroom and put my stuff in my cubby.
I had gym first period, which was my favorite class in school. I went to gym with my friend Alfonso who was a new kid from Santo Domingo. When we got to gym Mr. Kennedy told us to go outside for gym. So Alfonso and I ran to the monkey bars. We played don’t touch rubber tag on the monkey bars.
I started to feel exhausted, I felt sort of dehydrated so I said, “Timeout! Timeout!” out of breath. Boom! Boom! A sound of multiple explosions. It sounded like a 30 second echo. About 15 minutes later many emergency workers were heading west on Houston toward the 9A west freeway.
That was all I heard, at the time I was six years old in the second grade. But in the morning I was having fun on the monkey bars. Then I was walking to get water with Alfonso. We both watched the school safety lock all back doors.
We were put in a position that we were facing the wall. All teachers were crying as we sat there confused. I saw my mother running in the front door of the building, with tears coming down her cheek. BOOM!!! There it was another explosion. There was that silence that didn’t feel right, I felt like a real hard shock wave hit me. I felt sort of deaf. Every one rushed down stairs and out the building. Many parents were looking for there children.
I asked my friend Alfonso “What do you think happened” “I don’t know, just don’t know” Alfonso said as he was about to cry.
Then a smell of fire came by it smelled really bad. Mom then said “Come on, come don’t be scared because god is going to protect you”. Me and my sister walked out but still confused if this was the right choice.
As we walked home all I heard were sirens and people yelling “oh my god”. “Mom why is Jesus letting this happen” “this isn’t Jesus we do this to our self” I know it wasn’t my fault I replied”. I got up stairs to the living room and turned on the TV just wanting to watch cartoons. I never liked to watch the news, but it was on every channel and they kept showing the replay of the World Trade Center. They reported to be a terrorist attack in the United States. I noticed some channels were not even working correctly. That just got me mad. Then I noticed this terrorism was plotted carefully, because they hijacked air planes which were easier than placing a bomb in the building and getting caught. 9/11 changed my life because I lost a family member. The question that came to my head was who did this? And would they attack America the country of the free? Did they forget we have the strongest military? Why the World Trade Center? Why New York City? I just kept thinking how hard it was for a man or women to notice that there spouse was not coming home that day. How hard could it have been to explain to there kids and for them to move on? Did you move on? I know I did. 9/11 changed my life because I lost a family member.
